Liveaboard trips to the Similan Islands, Surin Islands, Koh Tachai, Koh Bon & Richelieu Rock
One of Asia-Pacific’s top dive destinations. The Similan Islands and surrounding areas play host to an abundance of thriving reefs with soft corals and staggering marine life. Rated amongst the top 10 diving destinations worldwide a liveaboard trip is the best way of sampling the magnificent diving that this archipelago has to offer.
During Thailand’s hottest period of February to early April rising sea temperatures cause plankton blooms, which attract the larger animals in to the area. Thus you are not unlikely to see shoaling trevon barracuda, reef sharks, marble and eagle rays, and often encounter the giants, whale sharks and manta rays.
The dive sites are divided between west and east with the east featuring lush coral gardens with many colourful reef fish and anemones. Seas are calmer with dives at moderate depth making the diving suitable for all levels of divers and even snorkellers. The dive sites on the western side feature enormous granite boulders dropping down to 40m with swim-throughs, caves and tunnels. This provides more challenging dives for the more advanced diver.
The two islands between Similan and Surin, called Koh Bon & Koh Tachai are absolutely fantastic dive sites offering just about everything divers can wish for. These two spots are hard to top but the Richelieu Rock is capable in doing so, one of the, if not the best dive site in the Kingdom. Named by scuba diving pioneer Jacques Cousteau it is a truly spectacular dive site with an inordinate amount of marine life from harlequin shrimp to whale sharks.
